Phasing

The northern terminus of the ditch contained 2 pot sherds, one Roman and one Anglian, thus an Anglian phase for this ditch is likely. The stratigraphic relationships with the sequence of east-west aligned ditches were not established.

Discussion

A linear ditch aligned north/south intersecting with enclosure ditches 012AC00033, 012AC07211, 012AC00036 and 012AC00035, although the stratigraphic relationship between the ditches was not established during excavation. The single fill was a sandy clay loam (Munsell 10YR 4/3). The ditch was not defined during the excavation of the east/west aligned enclosure ditches and only the terminals of 012AC00199 were investigated. Two further ditches on the same alignment lie to the west (012AC00133 and 012AC00135), each forming different phases of the same enclosure.
